Dark Mullein ‘Verbascum nigrum’

A lovely plant. A rosette of leaves throws up a spike of rich yellow flowers with orange anthers, grow in herbaceous border. Found on road verges and embankments, in hedge banks and other grassy places, on walls and in cultivated ground, including arable field margins.

It prefers well-drained calcareous soils. The flowers are a good pollen and nectar source for a wide range of insects, particularly bees.
