Wild Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) - Wildlife-Friendly Native (Peat-Free Super Plugs & 9cm Pots)

Wild Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is a tall, dramatic biennial with towering spires of purple-pink, tubular flowers. Flowering from June to August, it’s a magnet for bumblebees, whose long tongues are perfectly adapted to reach deep into the bell-shaped blooms.

A classic feature of woodland edges, hedgerows, and cottage gardens, Wild Foxglove brings both beauty and biodiversity, naturalising easily and self-seeding for future years.

🪴 Supplied in strong peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, our Wild Foxgloves establish quickly and return reliably to brighten shady corners and wildlife borders.

Why Wild Your Garden?
Unlike mass-produced plants from commercial growers, our wildflowers come from small, peat-free family nurseries that share our ethos. These growers use no pesticides or herbicides, ensuring plants are safe for wildlife from the moment they arrive in your garden. Joel has used these same trusted growers for over 20 years in his wildlife landscaping projects, so you can be confident they’re tried, tested, and genuinely wildlife-friendly. By buying from Wild Your Garden, you’re also supporting independent growers who put nature first.

Additional Info

Wild Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is one of Britain’s most iconic wildflowers. With its towering spires of bell-shaped flowers in shades of magenta-purple, it commands attention in woodland clearings, hedgerows, and wild gardens. Blooming from June to August, it provides both beauty and vital nectar during the heart of summer.

For wildlife, Foxglove is a superstar. Its tubular flowers are perfectly adapted to bumblebees, whose long tongues can reach the nectar deep inside. The plant’s structure also offers shelter for insects, and its seeds provide food for small birds once flowering has finished.

Culturally, Foxglove is steeped in folklore. Long associated with the “gloves of the fox” (hence its name), it has been linked to fairy magic, woodland spirits, and old herbal medicine. Historically used in heart remedies (giving rise to the drug digitalis), it must never be eaten - all parts of the plant are poisonous to humans and pets.

As a biennial, Foxglove grows leaves in its first year before flowering in its second, then self-seeding to ensure its presence in future seasons. Plant it in drifts at woodland edges, shady borders, or naturalistic plantings, where it will bring both vertical drama and ecological value.

🪴 Our Wild Foxgloves are grown in peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, strong and ready to thrive. Once established, they’ll seed themselves to create long-term beauty and biodiversity.

Joel says...
“Foxgloves are one of those plants everyone notices - and for good reason. They’re absolutely stunning, and the bees go mad for them. I always plant them in groups so they make a big statement and keep the pollinators busy. And because ours are peat-free, you can plant them with confidence they’ll thrive and support wildlife straight away.”

Although there is a minimum order requirement of 8 plugs when purchasing specific species, if selecting our Super Plug Bespoke Pack, you can select up to 4 species of your choice from our given list to make up a 16 pack (or greater), allowing you a wider choice of plug species if 8 of one is too many. Find the link to our Super Plug Bespoke Pack here!

These SUPER PLUG specimens are available in 8 pack, 16 pack, 32 pack and 48 pack. The 9CM POTS are available individually.

They're both ready to be shipped to you in a few days.
