Joel says… “This is one of those plants that really earns its keep - flowering when insects need it most, not when it looks good in a catalogue.” More info below:

Helleborus foetidus, commonly known as stinking hellebore, is a native perennial with exceptional value for wildlife at a time of year when flowers are scarce.
Its distinctive green, bell-shaped flowers often appear from late winter into early spring, providing an important early nectar source for bumblebees and other insects emerging on mild days. The evergreen, deeply divided foliage adds year-round structure and shelter, making this a valuable plant even when not in flower.
Despite its unfortunate common name, Helleborus foetidus is a tough, reliable and long-lived plant that thrives in partial shade and well-drained soil. Once established, it requires very little maintenance and is ideal for woodland edges, wildlife borders and naturalistic planting.
A quietly important native plant that supports wildlife when it is needed most.
