Sambucus nigra ‘Black Tower® Eiffel’ is a striking upright form of our native elder, grown for its dramatic deep purple foliage, fragrant creamy-pink flower clusters, and excellent wildlife value.
In early summer, elder flowers provide a rich nectar source for bees, hoverflies, and other pollinators. Later in the season, these blooms develop into dark elderberries - an important autumn food source for birds and a vital part of the garden’s natural food web.
Unlike traditional sprawling elder, ‘Black Tower® Eiffel’ has a narrow, columnar habit, making it ideal for smaller gardens or for adding height and structure without taking up too much space. Its dark foliage creates a beautiful contrast in mixed borders and wildlife planting schemes.
Elder is one of the most generous shrubs you can grow for biodiversity - supporting insects, birds, and seasonal abundance throughout the year.
Thrives in sun or partial shade and is tolerant of most soils.
Supplied as an established shrub in a 12 litre container.
Eventual size: approx. 2.5–3m tall x 1m spread.
