Coral-Bark Willow Tree (Salix alba ‘Britzensis’) | Vibrant Winter Colour

Salix alba ‘Britzensis’ – Coral-Bark Willow

This fiery willow brings a burst of colour to the coldest months. Salix alba ‘Britzensis’ is prized for its vivid coral-red stems that light up the winter landscape. A fast-growing and eye-catching tree that still plays well with wildlife, this cultivar is ideal for wild corners, large gardens, and especially near water.

Cut it back in early spring and it’ll reward you with stronger colour and vigorous growth. Like all willows, it’s brilliant for biodiversity—supporting pollinators, birds, and all manner of invertebrates. Just plant it where it has room to shine and avoid placing it near buildings due to its enthusiastic root system.

Whether you’re adding structure to a wild pond or just want a splash of winter colour, Britzensis is bold, beautiful, and busy with life.

⚠️ Not suitable for small gardens or dry, compacted soils. Loves light, moist ground and space to spread, Supplied in a 12 litre container.

🗣️ Joel says...

“I love this willow for the contrast it brings to winter landscapes. Those bright red stems catch the low sun like nothing else, especially if you coppice it every few years. And because it’s a white willow, you still get all that great wildlife value—early catkins for pollinators, leafy cover for nesting birds, and a fast-growing carbon sink if you’ve got space!”
