Brighten your summer with the deliciously sweet Plum (Prunus) ‘Opal’, one of the most popular early plums for UK gardens. Sometimes nicknamed the ‘fruit bowl plum’, ‘Opal’ produces round, rosy purple fruits with a juicy yellow flesh and a dessert-like sweetness that rivals peaches!

In early spring, it bursts into masses of white blossom that draw in bees, hoverflies and other essential pollinators at a time when few other trees are in flower. The leafy canopy provides cover for small birds and garden insects, adding to its wildlife value through the seasons. Supplied in a 12 litre container.

Compact, hardy and easy to grow, ‘Opal’ reaches a tidy 3–4 metres at maturity and is happy in most sunny gardens or trained against a warm wall. It is partially self-fertile but benefits from a companion such as ‘Victoria’ or ‘Herman’ for bumper crops.
