Cowslip (Primula veris) is one of Britain’s most cherished spring wildflowers, with nodding clusters of golden-yellow, sweetly scented blooms. Flowering from April to May, it’s among the first nectar sources for bees, butterflies, and early hoverflies, brightening meadows, grassy banks, and orchard edges.
Traditionally found in old meadows and pastures, Cowslip is hardy and easy to grow, naturalising beautifully in grassland or borders to create long-lasting drifts of spring colour.
🪴 Supplied in strong peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, our Cowslips establish quickly and will return year after year.

Cowslip (Primula veris) is a timeless symbol of traditional meadows and a beloved part of Britain’s natural and cultural heritage. With its drooping umbels of golden-yellow, sweetly fragrant flowers, it lights up grasslands and verges in April and May, heralding the arrival of spring.
Historically associated with May Day celebrations and woven into folklore, Cowslip has long been treasured by people - and today, it remains just as valuable for wildlife. As one of the earliest flowering natives, it provides vital nectar and pollen for queen bumblebees, butterflies, and other early insects at a time when food sources are scarce. Its seeds are also spread by ants, helping it to naturalise in meadows and grassy habitats.
Cowslip thrives in sunny meadows, lawns, orchard edges, and grassy verges, particularly on well-drained soils. It will gradually spread to form cheerful colonies, creating a naturalistic, wildlife-rich display. Combined with other spring natives like Primroses and Early Purple Orchids, it’s perfect for anyone looking to recreate the charm of a traditional wildflower meadow.
🪴 Our Cowslips are grown in peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, supplied robust and well-rooted. Once established, they’ll reward you with year after year of spring beauty and ecological value.

“Cowslip is a real treasure of the spring meadow. Those nodding yellow flowers look stunning in grass, and they’re a lifeline for early pollinators. Plant them in drifts or scatter them through a lawn and they’ll naturalise beautifully. As always, these peat-free plugs and pots are healthy and ready to thrive.”
