Common Fleabane (Pulicaria dysenterica) is a cheerful late-summer native, producing clusters of golden-yellow, daisy-like flowers from July to September. Thriving in damp meadows, pond margins, and marshy ground, it brings a splash of colour just as many other wildflowers are fading.
Loved by hoverflies, bees, and butterflies, Fleabane is an excellent choice for boosting nectar availability into autumn and supporting a wide range of pollinators.
🪴 Supplied in strong peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, our Common Fleabane establishes quickly and naturalises beautifully.
Unlike mass-produced plants from commercial growers, our wildflowers come from small, peat-free family nurseries that share our ethos. These growers use no pesticides or herbicides, ensuring plants are safe for wildlife from the moment they arrive in your garden. Joel has used these same trusted growers for over 20 years in his wildlife landscaping projects, so you can be confident they’re tried, tested, and genuinely wildlife-friendly. By buying from Wild Your Garden, you’re also supporting independent growers who put nature first. From £2.40
Common Fleabane (Pulicaria dysenterica) is a striking late-flowering wildflower, easily recognised by its golden-yellow blooms that resemble small daisies. From July through September, it provides a reliable splash of colour and a valuable nectar source when many other wildflowers have finished flowering.
Ecologically, Fleabane is a magnet for insects. Bees, hoverflies, butterflies, and beetles all flock to its long-lasting flowers, making it a superb plant for extending the wildlife season into late summer and early autumn. Its damp-loving nature makes it particularly well-suited to pond edges, marshy borders, and wet meadows.
Culturally, Fleabane has an intriguing history. As its name suggests, it was once dried and used to repel fleas, and its Latin name (dysenterica) hints at its traditional use in herbal remedies for stomach ailments. While no longer used medicinally, it remains a plant with rich folklore associations.
For gardeners, it is a hardy perennial that naturalises well in damp soils. Combined with species like Purple Loosestrife, Devil’s Bit Scabious, or Meadowsweet, it helps create vibrant, wildlife-rich wetland displays.
🪴 Our Common Fleabane is grown in peat-free super plugs and 9cm pots, supplied robust and well-rooted to ensure long-term success in your wildlife garden.
Joel says...
“Fleabane is one of those late-season stars. When other wildflowers are fading, it’s still covered in insects. I love planting it around pond edges or damp spots to keep the wildlife interest going right through to autumn. And of course, it’s peat-free and ready to thrive.”
