Additional Info

Hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) are classic, tall-growing plants that bring height, colour and excellent wildlife value to the garden.

Their large, open flowers are rich in pollen and nectar and are particularly popular with bees, including bumblebees, which often disappear completely inside the blooms. Flowering through summer, hollyhocks provide an important food source at a time when pollinators are highly active.

Traditionally grown against walls, fences or at the back of borders, hollyhocks suit wildlife-friendly, cottage and informal gardens where a slightly relaxed, natural look is welcome. They are usually biennial or short-lived perennials, often self-seeding gently once established.

Strong, characterful plants that earn their place through both beauty and wildlife benefit.
