Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’) – Wildlife-Friendly Purple Beech Tree

Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’) is an elegant, slow-growing deciduous tree with striking deep purple foliage that brings structure, colour and year-round interest to larger gardens and landscape planting.

The lush purple leaves emerge rich and glossy in spring, deepen through summer and turn coppery-bronze before gently falling in autumn to form a natural mulch that improves the soil underneath — just as nature intended.

Joel says: “‘Purpurea’ is a beautiful purple beech — deep coloured leaves, strong shape and brilliant for wildlife. Perfect as a striking hedge or feature tree.” Supplied in a 20 litre container.

A purple beech is a haven for garden wildlife: its dense branches offer secure nesting for birds, safe cover for small mammals, and the leaf litter nourishes countless insects and soil creatures. Given time and space, it can reach 15–20 metres tall, but it can also be clipped into a majestic purple beech hedge or managed as a specimen tree.
