Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea Pendula’) – Wildlife-Friendly Weeping Purple Beech

Beech (Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea Pendula’) is a striking and unusual variety of the classic purple beech, known for its beautiful weeping branches and rich, deep purple foliage.

This graceful tree forms a cascading dome of gently arching branches that sweep towards the ground, creating shelter and shade beneath — perfect for birds, small mammals and a host of garden insects.

Joel says: “‘Purpurea Pendula’ is an elegant weeping beech — rich purple leaves, a stunning natural shape and brilliant cover for wildlife.” Supplied in a 12 litre container.

The glossy purple leaves hold their colour all season, then turn a burnished bronze in autumn before falling to enrich the soil naturally. Over time, ‘Purpurea Pendula’ grows slowly into a dramatic focal point for larger borders or lawns, eventually reaching 4–6 metres tall and wide if left unpruned.
