Echinops ritro ‘Veitch’s Blue’, commonly known as globe thistle, is a striking, architectural perennial with exceptional value for pollinating insects.
Its steel-blue, globe-shaped flowers appear in mid to late summer and are absolutely irresistible to bees, particularly bumblebees, which gather in large numbers to feed. The bold flower heads rise above spiny, silver-green foliage, adding strong structure and contrast to wildlife-friendly and naturalistic planting.
Despite its dramatic appearance, Echinops is a tough and resilient plant. It thrives in sunny, free-draining positions, copes well with dry conditions once established, and requires very little maintenance - making it ideal for low-input wildlife gardens.
A standout plant for late-season nectar, movement and visual impact.
