Dropwort (Filipendula vulgaris) - Wildlife-Friendly Native (Peat-Free Super Plugs & 9cm Pots)

Dropwort (Filipendula vulgaris) is one of Britain’s most charming native wildflowers. With its frothy clusters of creamy-white flowers held high above feathery foliage, it brings a touch of elegance to meadows, grassy banks, and naturalistic borders. Its flowering season runs from June through August, providing a valuable nectar source during the height of summer.

Though related to Meadowsweet, Dropwort has a much lighter and more delicate growth habit. Its fern-like leaves form a neat rosette at the base, while its upright stems carry airy, almond-scented blooms that dance in the breeze. This makes it a perfect companion to other meadow species such as Knapweed, Scabious, and Birdsfoot Trefoil, creating a tapestry of colour and texture.

Ecologically, Dropwort is highly valuable. Its nectar attracts a wide range of pollinators - bees, hoverflies, beetles, and butterflies - making it an essential addition to any wildlife-friendly planting scheme. As a traditional meadow species, it also plays an important role in supporting the biodiversity of unimproved grasslands, many of which have been lost in recent decades.
