Columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris) is a delightful woodland-edge wildflower with elegant, nodding blooms in shades of violet-blue. Its unique spur-shaped flowers appear from May to July, drawing in long-tongued pollinators like bees, especially the endangered garden bumblebee (*Bombus hortorum*), and even hawkmoths at dusk.
This is a perfect plant for naturalistic borders, dappled shade, or wild-style cottage gardens. Its ferny foliage and upright form bring grace and structure to any wildlife-friendly planting scheme, and it happily self-seeds without being aggressive.
Joel says...
“Columbine is one of those old cottage garden favourites that also happens to be a native - which makes it a win-win for wild gardeners. It brings a softness to borders and offers real value to long-tongued bees. Plus, it’s peat-free and grown to thrive.”
Why Choose Peat-Free?
Our Columbine is grown in both 9cm pots and Super Plugs using fully peat-free compost. Supporting peat-free growing helps preserve the UK’s precious peat bogs, which lock away carbon and provide essential habitat for rare plants and insects.
Available in:
• 9cm Pots - sold individually
• Peat-Free Super Plugs - available in 8, 16, 32, or 48-packs
