Placing Your Blue Tit Nesting Box:

1. Height: Hang the nesting box at a low height, ideally around 1 to 5 meters. Blue Tits have a strong preference for nesting in fissures. They readily utilise tree hollows that have formed naturally through decay or have been created by other animals and birds, with a particular fondness for those crafted by woodpeckers.

2. Sheltered: When hanging your Blue Tit box, look for a spot 1m (min) off the ground and that is neither too obstructed nor too exposed. Blue tits prefer a fairly clear and unobstructed flight path to and from the nest.

3. Orientation: Position the nesting box to face a direction that shields it from prevailing winds and harsh weather conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, as this will help maintain a comfortable temperature inside the box.

4. Clear Flight Path: Ensure there is a clear flight path for Blue Tits to easily access the nesting box. Remove any obstacles or branches that may hinder their approach. Additionally, ensure there is a “cat-free” area in front of the box for added safety.

5. Quiet Area: Choose a location away from high-traffic areas or places with frequent human disturbance. Blue Tits prefer quieter environments for nesting, which reduces stress and increases their chances of successful breeding.

6. Nearby Food Sources: Consider hanging the Blue Tit Nesting Box near a reliable source of food, such as a bird feeder or a garden with insects and berries. Bird baths are very helpful too. Proximity to food will provide convenience for the nesting pair when foraging to feed their young.
