Bird’s-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) is one of the UK’s most valuable native wildflowers for wildlife. Its cheerful yellow blooms - sometimes tinged with red - appear from late spring to early autumn and provide vital nectar for a range of bees, butterflies, and day-flying moths.
It’s a key larval food plant for several butterfly species, including the Common Blue, Dingy Skipper, and Green Hairstreak, as well as the Six-spot Burnet moth. That makes it not just beautiful, but ecologically powerful.
Low-growing and easy to maintain, Bird’s-foot Trefoil is perfect for wildflower meadows, grass verges, sunny rockeries, and even gravel or green roof schemes. It thrives in poor soil and helps improve it by fixing nitrogen, boosting long-term plant health naturally.
Our plants are grown 100% peat-free, supporting responsible horticulture that protects wild habitats and the creatures who depend on them.

Our super plug plants and 9cm pots are grown using a peat-free compost blend to protect wild peatlands and the species that depend on them. Choosing peat-free supports butterflies, amphibians, and carbon-rich habitats under threat. Together we make a difference.
